After a tasty lunch in ‘Santa Lucia’ in the heart of the old city, nearly 20 of us set out with guide HeidiMarlene Landmark to discover that it was Martini Markt day.
So, in the beautiful but extremely noisy and crowded narrow streets various sub-groups were formed, one of which was treated to tea by Heidi Bigmore in her English shop in the Vordergasse.
Some others followed Bob Dean into the 11th century Romanesque Munster with the Allerheiligen Benedictine monastery, its cloisters and Schiller’s Bell.
To compare, we then took a brief glimpse inside the gothic church of St Johann before the braver among us made our way (slowly) up to and inside the impressive 16th century Munot to profit from the sunny views.
Though not quite as originally planned, the day was certainly a success, and we all learnt lots.
