REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

For many years the BRA and the RBL (Royal British Legion) have joined up at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Zurich to pay tribute to the millions who died for us in the two World Wars.
There was a special Commemorative Service with a 2-minute silence and the Bugle call – first called for by King George V in 1919.
A Poppy Field was put in front of the altar, where one may place a small cross on it with the name of a relative who died during one of the World Wars.
Downstairs in the Community Centre we had Display Tables with information on the World Wars and a model WW1 Trench made by children for children.
A delicious homemade lunch was provided by a Church Member and afterwards we listened to a very moving talk by former Swiss Brigadier Danel Lätsch on the final Allied Advance in Italy, from Ancona to the River Po.
The Allies included the Gurkhas from Nepal, a Greek Mountain Regiment, a New Zealand Division, a Polish and Jewish Brigade and even a visit by the UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Daniel’s talk was enhanced with photos and maps on a screen.
