A group of BRA Members from all over Switzerland met up for lunch at the Hotel Shiff am Rhein in Rheinfelden on a very hot day in July 2018. We all had a long cool drink while we chose different items off the seasonal menu and all enjoyed our delicious light lunches.
We then walked along the streets of the delightful medieval town of Rheinfelden to the lovely cool Johanniterkappelle, where we met with local artist Franz Zimmerli.
There Franz had displayed many paintings of different subjects; horses, flowers, people, landscapes; the choice was extensive. While we were contemplating at all the lovely images, Franz played some well-known tunes on his pan flute for us.
For those of us who didn’t want to buy a painting, there was also the possibility to purchase our favourite images as a card, to keep or post to friends.
During our visit Franz explained, that all the monies made from the exhibition sales are being donated to “The Mercy Ships” which operates the largest non-governmental hospital ship in the world.
His target is to raise CHF:15’000 to pay eye operations for 300 children, he will then double the amount himself personally so that 600 children will benefit from the charity and he will also go and do voluntary work on-board ship next year for a minimum of 3 months.
After thanking Franz for the lovely exhibition we walked back along the streets for a cool drink on a terrace under the trees, before each heading home, tired but satisfied.
